Municipal Water Treatment Plant

Water Treatment Plant Expansion and SCADA Upgrade

Industry Water & Wastewater

Product/Material Handled Municipal water

System Deliverables

Facility Capacity Expansion

Plant capacity tripled, from 10 to 30 MGD, while an older 18 MGD facility was cleanly decommissioned in the process.

SCADA System Migration

Converted Wonderware gave way to Ignition, bringing new equipment online, adding redundant servers, and simplifying historian functionality along the way.

Operator-Friendly Implementation

Familiar pushbuttons, graphics, and color schemes were intentionally carried over, so plant staff could hit the ground running without a steep learning curve.

Results in Action

Increased Water Treatment Capacity

The expanded plant can now treat and filter more water, keeping up with municipal demand without straining operations.

Streamlined Data Reporting

Ignition simplified historian and reporting tasks, cutting steps and making data easier for operators to access and use.

Cost-Effective System Upgrade

Switching to Ignition brought service costs down while keeping familiar operator workflows intact-and training needs to a minimum.

  • Intentionally, the SCADA system itself was not improved, avoiding a large learning curve for the employees of the utility.

  • The change to Ignition was cost-effective since the service portion for Ignition is cheaper than that of Wonderware.

  • After the modifications, the utility has more capacity and is able to filter and treat more water. The collection and retrieval of data for the historian is a simpler process. Previously, several steps were required to obtain reports from the data. Reporting has now been simplified and streamlined in Ignition.
